How To Play
Eclipse is a turn-based strategy game of imperfect information. Play as the Light or Shadow army and battle on a 10x10 grid. Players alternate moving; red moves first. The right to move first does not significantly affect game play. Each player moves one piece per turn. A player must move a piece in their turn; one cannot skip a turn. The game can be won by capturing the oposing armies' vital crystal or all of their moveable pieces.
During the setup phase, place your pieces in your starting zone (Light uses rows 1-4, Shadow uses rows 7-10). Click a piece from the sidebar, then click where to place it. Remember that once you place a piece, you cannot swap its location. Choose your placement carefully. Your Crystal can only be placed in the two back rows. This will be highlighted for the player in green during board setup. Most players chose to place traps (rank 0 pieces) surrounding their crystal.
Most pieces move one square horizontally or vertically. Rank 2 pieces can move multiple squares in straight lines. Barriers/Traps (rank 0) and Crystals cannot move.
When you move onto an enemy piece, you initiate a battle. During a battle, the higher rank wins and stays on the board. Equal ranks destroy each other. A Rank 0 piece (barrier/trap) destroys any piece besides a rank 3 piece. The remaining piece will have its rank revealed for one turn. It is up to the player to remember that piece's rank.
The Infiltrator (rank 1) defeats the enemy Lord (rank 10) only if the Infiltrator is the attacker. Saints and Shamans (rank 3) can remove enemy Barriers/Traps (rank 0).
Capture the enemy Crystal to win instantly, or eliminate all enemy pieces that can move. Protect your Crystal at all costs - losing it means immediate defeat. In rare cases, a draw can occur when both players' crystals are protected by traps and each player has one remaining piece which is not a saint/shaman.
Left-click to select and move pieces, right-click to cancel. Press ESC to quit.F11 to toggle fullscreen.
