Xiaocan Li

Staff Scientist, Theoretical Division (T-2), Los Alamos National Laboratory.

I build multi-scale models that explain how magnetized plasmas convert stored energy into energetic particles in solar, space, and astrophysical environments. Most projects blend large-scale particle-in-cell, hybrid, and MHD simulations with energetic-particle transport solvers.

Current focus

  • 3D reconnection campaigns -- GPU-accelerated 3D VPIC and hybrid simulations to study reconnection-driven turbulence.
  • Coupled particle transport -- Multi-scale transport solvers to energetic particle acceleration and transport.
  • Observation-driven workflows -- Embedding X-ray, radio, and laboratory diagnostics into simulation pipelines for model validation.
