A free tool that compares salaries across 3,400+ neighborhoods in 182 cities worldwide — factoring in taxes, cost of living, and exchange rates.
Every cost-of-living calculator treats entire cities as one number. But "NYC" could mean Tribeca ($4,500/month rent) or Inwood ($1,800/month). "London" could mean Chelsea or Tottenham. These aren't the same financial reality.
Salary Converter solves this by comparing at the neighborhood level.
- Neighborhood-level comparisons — 3,400+ neighborhoods across 182 cities
- Tax calculations — using OECD data (federal, state/provincial, local)
- Cost of living — from Numbeo and Expatistan, weighted by neighborhood
- Exchange rates — ECB data for international comparisons
- Single & Family mode — family mode factors in childcare costs
- Retirement/Savings tool — how long will your savings last in each city?
- Visa requirements
- Tax obligations
- Quality of life scores
| Data | Source |

| Cost of Living | Numbeo + Expatistan |

All comparisons use a NYC baseline (COLI = 100) for consistency.
- Job offer comparison — Is $150K in Austin better than $190K in NYC?
- Relocation planning — Will my salary go further if I move abroad?
- Remote work negotiation — Push back on geo-based pay adjustments with real data
- Retirement planning — Where will my savings stretch the furthest?
- Expat financial planning — Compare purchasing power across countries
Built by Jason Iliou — originally to solve my own problem when relocating from Greece to London. I couldn't find any tool that compared neighborhoods instead of just cities, so I built one.
