Repository files navigation

This repository contains notebooks that utilize MLB pitch data for a variety of data visualizations.

Pitching_Template - A general template useful for quick importing of MLB pitching data utilizing the MLB Player ID & desired season.

Pitching_Defining_Strikezone - A breakdown of MLB provided data, exploring why there are discrepancies in values for strikes and balls.

Scaling_Strikezone - Generating a scaled strike zone. Provides a new strikezone, which scales pitch locations based on the batter's strike zone. Helpful in visualizations as opposed to assigning a generic strike zone that may misrepresent pitch location.

Arm_Angle [IN PROGRESS] - Creating a foundational tool that examines the arm angles and events for specific batters. Using in a larger project, not made to be pretty.

Arm_Angle_All [IN PROGRESS] - Currently working on a notebook that examines batter outcomes based on pitchers handedness & arm angle. Ideally, this would allow clubs to make decisions not only on opposing batter success vs. handedness, but also considering the arm angle of the pitcher as well. Ex: Trea Turner bats very well against Tim Hill, is this consistant across lefties with low angles? Is Trea Turner vs. LHP stats heavily influenced by success of a certain arm angle? And are these mirrored in handedness, or independent.
