React Chess

A single-player chess game built with React and Vite, using Unicode piece symbols.

GitHub Pages

The app is set up to deploy to GitHub Pages via GitHub Actions.

  1. Enable GitHub Pages: In your repo go to Settings → Pages. Under Build and deployment, set Source to GitHub Actions.
  2. Push the main branch (or run the workflow manually from the Actions tab). The workflow builds the app and deploys it.
  3. The site will be at https://garretthogan.github.io/react-chess/ (replace with your repo name if different).

If your repo name is not react-chess, update the base in vite.config.js to match (e.g. '/my-repo-name/').

React + Vite

This template provides a minimal setup to get React working in Vite with HMR and some ESLint rules.

Currently, two official plugins are available:

React Compiler

The React Compiler is not enabled on this template because of its impact on dev & build performances. To add it, see this documentation.

Expanding the ESLint configuration

If you are developing a production application, we recommend using TypeScript with type-aware lint rules enabled. Check out the TS template for information on how to integrate TypeScript and typescript-eslint in your project.
