Current Version: OTB v0.8.0

Acknowledging the Past, Looking to the Future

We've decided to re-designate OTB's current version from v1.0.0 to v0.8.0. This change reflects our commitment to not launching a v1.0.0 product until it fully meets our high standards for user experience and functionality.

But there's no need to worry! We are excited to announce that we will officially launch v1.0.0 on September 25, 2025! This new version will introduce a series of major improvements and features to elevate the platform.

What to Expect in OTB v1.0.0

  • User and Organization Accounts: You'll be able to create accounts as Players and Organizations.

    • Players are for personal use, allowing you to register for tournaments.
    • Organizations are for clubs and federations, giving you the ability to create, update, and delete your own tournaments, news and announcements.
    • Anyone will still be able to search for tournaments, players, news, and announcements without needing to log in. However, a Player account will be required to register for a tournament.
  • New API Functionality: The API will be expanded to support GET, POST, PUT, DELETE for creating and managing tournaments, announcements, and news. This will support the new features for organizations.

  • Data Sourcing & Standardization:

    • FIDE tournaments will be available via web scraping.
    • The platform will support multiple federations, making it easy to add your favorite tournaments.
    • We will implement data normalization to ensure all scraped information follows a consistent standard before it is saved to the database.
  • Performance & Internationalization:

    • The API will feature caching to ensure faster load times and a smoother user experience.
    • We're upgrading our i18n (internationalization) process to make the platform more accessible to a global audience.
    • All data and time will follow the ISO 8601 standard, preventing common formatting errors and ensuring consistency.
  • Interface and User Experience:

    • A completely new Web Interface is being developed. We're doing a full redesign with a focus on simplicity, intuitiveness, and speed.
    • A calendar view will be added to the UI, allowing you to see all tournaments in a clear, organized format.
    • Search functionality for players, tournaments, news, and announcements will be significantly improved.

We are confident that these changes will make OTB the premier platform for the chess community. We are optimistic and excited for the future!
