Make every container gismu parallel the following pattern:

"x1 is a [container] containing x2" (plus additional places where they are needed)

In other words, remove the "intended for being filled with x2" idea everywhere and make the containers actually be filled with x2. This is way easier to handle.

I tend to agree. Then empty containers are usually containers of air? But
how do we talk about wine bottles, shoe boxes, and so on? Just use tanru?

I'd say so, yes.

A wine bottle is a bottle that was made to put wine in it, or it was
intended for being filled with wine. This is where the "intended for"
gismu would come in handy, whereas {tutci} would be less adequate.

And sometimes a wine bottle is simply a bottle that contains wine. I
think we have enough options to express the difference:

tanru (vanju botpi), filling places directly (botpi lo vanju), using
"intended for" (broda lo ka botpi lo vanju), lujvo (vanbo'i).

Yes, that's how you explain what a wine bottle is, but I was wondering how
we would normally talk about it. "lo botpi poi broda lo ka vasru lo vanju"
seems a bit long. So just "lo vanju botpi"?

Yes, that's how you explain what a wine bottle is, but I was wondering how

Yeah, I'd most likely just use a tanru in most situations, unless I know
a luvjo for the concept.
