About DavisFriends: We hope to connect the people of Davis using our app by being a good centralized area for information!
Problem Statement: The main problem in Davis is that there is no centralized way of getting information about events happening. Some events are posted through discord as an announcement, some are posted as posters around campus, some events are spread by word of mouth, some are posted by the city, and some are posted through our School’s website. As such, there are many cases where people may miss the event simply because they didn’t find out or hear about it. There are also some of these events that are barred behind searching through multiple pages just to find out information about one event. This leads to a problem where there are things to do in Davis, but people will stay home because they don’t know about it or because of the big barrier of entry for some events where it requires more effort than should be. As such, the people staying home that do want to go out and meet people or just want activities to do are impacted because they don’t know about these things.
Solution: The goal of the app is to let people know about the things happening in Davis. It also plans to help with mental health as we plan to implement features that make the user want to go and be outside more through leaderboards and objectives. As a starting point when the app is first opened, it will immediately let the user know about the events happening today in Davis. Once done with the first page, there will be a map that will show pins of the current events happening around the area. If the user doesn’t have the app open, but there are things happening around the area, then it will notify the user of the nearby event.
