/claim #13

Summary

Adds citation-context-fit-assistant, a self-contained AI-Assisted Research Tools MVP slice that validates citation recommendations before one-click insertion into a manuscript.

The assistant evaluates whether a candidate reference:

  • directly supports the highlighted claim
  • contradicts a claim that was requesting support
  • only contextualizes/backgrounds the claim
  • is irrelevant to the highlighted claim
  • has sufficient evidence strength and field fit
  • needs a contrast note or intent relabeling before insertion
  • is stale for a non-background citation use

Non-overlap

This is not a broad AI tools suite, evidence-grounded summarizer, citation provenance module, citation metadata integrity assistant, citation style normalizer, citation diversity auditor, citation retraction watch, methods reproducibility assistant, figure/table evidence auditor, protocol deviation screener, novelty overlap auditor, manuscript similarity triage, ethics/data availability auditor, statistical consistency checker, study power checker, unit consistency assistant, supplementary readiness assistant, or biomethods specimen/reagent provenance assistant. It focuses specifically on citation context fit and misleading one-click insertion prevention.

Local validation

Run from citation-context-fit-assistant/:

npm run check
npm test
npm run demo
npm run demo:video

All four commands passed locally.

Reviewer artifacts

  • reports/summary.json
  • reports/reviewer-packet.md
  • reports/summary.svg
  • reports/demo.webm

Safety

All data is synthetic. The module does not call DOI registries, Crossref, PubMed, arXiv, Semantic Scholar, publishers, external corpora, or live citation insertion systems. It does not include private manuscripts, credentials, real literature metadata, or live citation mutations.

Reviewer-ready checkpoint for /claim #13. This PR is open, non-draft, mergeable/CLEAN, Bounty claim labeled, and the body contains /claim #13. Scope remains the citation context fit assistant: support/contradiction/context classification, evidence-strength checks, field-fit review, stale citation detection, and insertion-ready remediation outputs from synthetic data only.

Status refresh after same-issue PR #414 opened for citation venue integrity: PR #380 remains open, non-draft, mergeable/CLEAN, bounty-labeled, and claim-marked for /claim #13.

Scope is still the citation context-fit decision layer, not venue-integrity screening. PR #380 evaluates whether a candidate reference supports, contradicts, only contextualizes, or is irrelevant to the highlighted manuscript claim before one-click insertion, including citation intent labels, claim polarity, evidence strength, field fit, recency/staleness, contradiction flags, and insertion-note remediation.

This is separate from venue-level trust checks such as fake impact-factor signals, hijacked-journal identity, editorial-board verification, acceptance-timeline plausibility, and paper-mill indicators. PR #380 remains review-ready for the existing issue #13 claim.

Status refresh after newer same-issue #13 activity.

Re-verified now: this PR is open, non-draft, mergeable/CLEAN, bounty-labeled, and claim-marked for issue #13.

The scope remains the citation context-fit assistant: support/contradiction/context/irrelevance classification for candidate references before one-click citation insertion, with citation intent labels, claim polarity, evidence strength, field fit, recency/staleness, contradiction flags, and insertion-note remediation.

This is distinct from the newer lay summary safety gate and venue-integrity screening slices. No implementation changes are needed from my side unless reviewers request revisions.

Status refresh after the new same-issue PR #439 activity: PR #380 remains open, non-draft, mergeable/CLEAN, bounty-labeled, and claim-marked for issue #13.

The submitted scope remains the citation context-fit assistant: whether a candidate reference supports, contradicts, only contextualizes, or is irrelevant to a highlighted manuscript claim before one-click citation insertion, including citation intent labels, claim polarity, evidence strength, field fit, recency/staleness, contradiction flags, and insertion-note remediation. This is distinct from statistical power/sample-size adequacy, lay summary safety, venue-integrity screening, reporting-guideline compliance, manuscript certainty/tone calibration, multiple-comparison control, and other #13 slices.

Status refresh after newer same-issue claim-body PR activity, including PR #439 and PR #302: PR #380 remains open, non-draft, mergeable/CLEAN, bounty-labeled, and claim-marked for issue #13.

The submitted scope remains the citation context-fit assistant: whether a candidate reference supports, contradicts, contextualizes, or is irrelevant to the highlighted manuscript claim; evidence-strength and field-fit checks; stale non-background citation detection; contrast-note recommendations; and misleading one-click insertion prevention.

PR #439 appears to add statistical power/sample-size review, and PR #302 appears to add citation diversity/coverage auditing. Those are adjacent AI-assisted research slices, but PR #380 is still the prior citation context-fit decision layer for this issue.

Status refresh after the newer same-issue PR #456 activity: PR #380 remains open, non-draft, mergeable/CLEAN, bounty-labeled, and claim-marked for issue #13.

PR #456 appears to add a separate protocol/preregistration deviation review assistant for registration timing, endpoint alignment, analysis model changes, outcome-aware exclusions, amendment provenance, and AI summary caveats. That is adjacent, but PR #380 is still the prior citation context-fit decision layer for this issue.

Status refresh after the newer same-issue PR #491 claim registration: PR #380 remains open, non-draft, mergeable/CLEAN, bounty-labeled, and claim-marked for issue #13.

The submitted scope remains the citation context-fit assistant: support/contradiction/context/irrelevance classification for candidate references against highlighted manuscript claims, evidence strength and field-fit checks, stale non-background citation warnings, contrast-note/intent relabeling guidance, and deterministic reviewer artifacts. It is tied to the Pending USD 400 Algora claim: https://algora.io/claims/ee3Eajhko41XV9Xj

PR #491 appears to add a closely adjacent citation context-fit guard for intent, overlap, contradiction signals, metadata, and recency. That overlaps the review surface, but PR #380 is still the prior existing claimed implementation for this issue and remains ready for maintainer review.

Visibility and merge/reward readiness refresh after newer same-issue #13 activity from @goodgoodclaw on PR #524:

My active #13 submission remains PR #380: #380

Current status re-verified now:

Scope remains distinct: PR #380 is the citation context-fit assistant for AI-Assisted Research Tools MVP. It validates whether a candidate reference supports, contradicts, only contextualizes, or is irrelevant to the highlighted manuscript claim before one-click citation insertion, with evidence strength, field fit, stale non-background use, contrast-note, and remediation checks.

PR #524 is a separate executive summary claim trace assistant focused on AI-generated summary bullets, trace IDs, unsupported numeric details, over-broad claims, low evidence text overlap, and clinical/policy safety context. No contributor-side changes are pending for PR #380 unless maintainers request revisions. Could a maintainer please review PR #380 for merge/reward decision, or point me to the exact change needed to unblock it?
