Core Systems

MSWHendys edited this page May 11, 2026 · 4 revisions

Eroded World is built around several interconnected survival systems.
Every major action has a cost, and the world reacts to how players move, mine, fight, craft, explore, and survive.

This page provides a high-level overview of the main gameplay pillars. For deeper explanations, see the related Wiki pages linked at the bottom.

Energy & Stamina

Energy is one of the most important survival resources in Eroded World.
It represents the player's physical condition and limits how aggressively they can sprint, fight, mine, craft, and recover.

The energy system is server-authoritative, meaning the server controls the real energy values and synchronizes them to the client HUD.

Main effects

  • Sprinting drains energy over time.
  • Mining and physical actions may consume energy.
  • Crafting and special mechanics can interact with energy.
  • Combat movement, such as dodging, depends on available energy.
  • Low energy affects player performance and survival safety.

Energy states

  • Normal
The player can move, sprint, fight, mine, and recover normally.

  • Tired
Energy is getting low. The player is still functional, but recovery and survival pressure become more noticeable.

  • Exhausted
The player is heavily weakened. Sprinting may be restricted and negative effects such as Mining Fatigue may apply.

  • Empty / Collapse
The body gives out. The player must recover before continuing safely.

Recovery

Energy can recover through configured survival actions such as:

  • resting,
  • sleeping,
  • eating food,
  • using special recovery items,
  • natural regeneration over time.

Some items, such as Energy Drink or Adrenaline Shot, are designed to help in emergencies, but they should not be treated as a permanent solution.

Warning

Running out of energy underground or inside high-threat territory can easily turn a normal expedition into a death trap.

True Darkness

Darkness in Eroded World is not only visual.
It is a gameplay system that makes unlit areas dangerous and forces players to respect light as a survival tool.

What darkness does

  • Deep caves and poorly lit areas become significantly harder to navigate.
  • The client can display darkness overlays and atmospheric visual effects.
  • The player may experience fear-like feedback such as heartbeat tension.
  • Hostile behavior can become more dangerous in dark environments.
  • Some enemies may react to light or try to escape from it.

Light matters

Players are expected to prepare before entering caves or abandoned areas.

Recommended light sources include:

  • torches,
  • lanterns,
  • temporary light sources,
  • special Eroded World items,
  • protected or reinforced base lighting.

Tip

In Eroded World, light is not decoration. It is part of your survival equipment.

Mining & Structural Collapse

The underground is unstable.
Mining too aggressively can weaken the area and increase the risk of a cave collapse.

The system tracks mining activity in the surrounding territory. As players mine, the local area can accumulate mining pressure. When the pressure becomes too high, unstable underground areas may collapse.

Collapse risk

Collapse danger can be influenced by:

  • how much mining happened nearby,
  • local territory pressure,
  • depth,
  • threat level,
  • nearby stabilizing blocks,
  • server configuration.

Collapse warnings

Before a collapse happens, players may receive warning signs such as:

  • sounds,
  • particles,
  • falling dust,
  • unstable atmosphere,
  • sudden environmental feedback.

These warnings should be taken seriously. They are often the last chance to leave the area.

Structural support

Some blocks can protect tunnels from collapse if they are recognized as stabilizers.

Examples may include:

  • logs,
  • support-like blocks,
  • blocks tagged by the mod or modpack as stabilizers.

Important

Supported mining areas are much safer. Unsupported deep mining is intentionally risky.

Hidden threats

Cave collapses are not only environmental hazards.
Depending on configuration and local danger, collapse events may also expose or attract hostile threats.

Territory & Threat Level

The world remembers what players do.

Eroded World tracks player activity across larger territory cells based on chunks. These cells store environmental pressure such as mining activity and threat.

This creates a dynamic difficulty map where frequently disturbed areas become more dangerous over time.

What increases pressure

Territory pressure may increase through actions such as:

  • mining,
  • repeated underground activity,
  • environmental disturbance,
  • pollution-like systems,
  • dangerous events,
  • local player activity.

What threat can affect

High-threat areas may influence:

  • mob danger,
  • environmental decay,
  • cave collapse risk,
  • hostile spawn behavior,
  • darkness pressure,
  • local survival difficulty.

Ecosystem decay

In heavily disturbed areas, the environment may begin to look damaged or corrupted.

Possible effects include:

  • grass degradation,
  • leaf decay,
  • visual environmental changes,
  • harsher atmosphere,
  • stronger feeling of world erosion.

Mutated mobs

In dangerous territory, ordinary hostile mobs may become more threatening.

Mutated or special variants can have improved stats, stronger behavior, or unique interactions with the environment.

Some dangerous mobs may also interact with light sources, making caves and abandoned areas even less safe.

Warning

If an area becomes too dangerous, leaving it alone for a while may be safer than pushing deeper.

Intelligent Loot System

Loot in Eroded World is designed to support exploration and progression.

Instead of being only random reward containers, some chests can become part of the survival experience through protection, special loot rules, and quality-based rewards.

Eroded loot

Some naturally generated containers may receive special Eroded loot depending on configuration and world rules.

These chests can contain:

  • useful survival items,
  • tools,
  • armor,
  • rare materials,
  • special modded items,
  • items with quality tiers.

Protected containers

Some containers may be temporarily protected or locked by the loot system.

This helps prevent simple “break and steal” behavior and encourages players to interact with the chest properly.

Depending on the system state, protection may be removed after the chest is searched.

Quality-based rewards

Looted equipment may interact with the Crafting & Quality system.

Items can appear with quality tiers such as:

  • Poor
  • Standard
  • Excellent

Quality can affect how valuable, reliable, or desirable an item is.

Tip

Exploration can reward you with equipment that would be difficult to craft early in the game.

Death & Soul Recovery

Death in Eroded World is punishing, but not unfair.

The death system is designed to preserve the player's items while still making recovery dangerous and meaningful.

Death Ender Chest

When a player dies, their inventory can be stored in a special Death Ender Chest at or near the death location.

This gives the player a chance to recover their items, but reaching the chest may still be dangerous.

Protection

The death chest can be protected for a limited time.

This prevents other players from immediately taking the dead player's items and gives the owner a fair recovery window.

Death Compass

After death, the player can receive or use a special compass that helps locate their death position.

The compass is designed to guide the player back toward their remains, making recovery possible even after a dangerous expedition.

Recovery pressure

Death still has consequences.

After respawning, the player may be weakened or low on energy. Running straight back into danger without preparation can easily lead to another death.

Warning

Recovering your items is part of the challenge. Prepare before returning to your death location.

Crafting, Quality & Progression

Crafting in Eroded World is connected to player progression.

The mod can track crafting-related experience and use quality tiers to make crafted or looted equipment feel less predictable and more meaningful.

Quality tiers

Items may receive quality levels such as:

  • Poor
  • Standard
  • Excellent

Quality can be used to represent how well an item was crafted, found, repaired, or preserved.

Skill progression

Certain actions can contribute to progression systems such as crafting growth or skill-like experience.

This encourages players to improve over time instead of instantly mastering every survival system.

Tip

A better-quality item can be the difference between surviving one more cave trip or losing everything underground.

Special Items & Blocks

Eroded World includes custom items and blocks that support the main survival systems.

Examples include:

  • Energy Drink
    Emergency energy recovery item.

  • Adrenaline Shot
Temporary survival boost used in critical situations.

  • Death Compass
Helps players return to their death location.

  • Death Ender Chest
    Stores player items after death.

  • Eroded Lamp
    Special light-related survival block.

  • Eroded Block
Custom block used by the mod or modpack systems.

These items are not only collectibles. They are connected to the survival loop and should be treated as important tools.
