What is Color Picker: Camera HEX RGB?

Color Picker: Camera HEX RGB is a free color identification app by lapnito.cz s.r.o. that lets you capture exact colors from the real world using your phone's camera or any photo from your gallery. Point the crosshair at any surface, and the app instantly identifies the pixel color and provides its value in HEX, RGB, HSL, and CMYK formats.

Available as Color Picker: Camera HEX RGB on Google Play and as Color Picker Camera: HEX RGB on the App Store.

Whether you're a graphic designer matching a brand color from a physical sample, a developer extracting exact color codes for CSS, an interior decorator sampling wall paints, or a hobbyist building a mood board — Color Picker gives you precise, copy-ready color values in one tap. All processing happens locally on your device, with zero data collection and no ads.

Key Features

Color Identification

  • Live Camera Color Picker — Aim the precise crosshair at any real-world surface to capture the exact pixel color in real time. Works as an eyedropper tool for the physical world.
  • Photo Color Picker — Extract colors from any image in your photo gallery. Tap anywhere on the photo to identify its color.
  • Multiple Color Formats — Every captured color is displayed simultaneously in HEX, RGB, HSL, and CMYK, so you always have the format you need.
  • One-Tap Copy — Tap any color code to instantly copy it to your clipboard, ready to paste into your design tool or code editor.

Color Organization

  • Color Library & Swatches — Save your favorite colors and organize them into a personal library for quick reference later.
  • Palette Builder — Create custom color palettes manually or build them from picked colors. Combine related colors into cohesive palettes.
  • Sharing & Export — Share palettes as text, JSON, CSS variables, or PNG images. Export your full library for backup or handoff to teammates.

Color Tools

  • Contrast Checker — Verify whether two colors meet accessibility contrast requirements for text readability.
  • Color Harmony Suggestions — Generate complementary, triadic, analogous, and other harmonious color combinations from any picked color.
  • RAL Color Matching — Find the nearest RAL paint reference for any captured color — useful for painting, industrial design, and manufacturing.

User Experience

  • Clean, intuitive interface with a minimal design focused on fast color capture and easy navigation between library, palettes, and tools.
  • Works offline — No internet connection required. All color processing happens entirely on your device.
  • Dark mode support — Full light and dark theme support for comfortable use in any environment.
  • Backup & Restore — Export and import your entire color library and palettes as JSON via the Files app.

Use Cases

Use Case How It Helps
Graphic Design Match brand colors from physical samples, packaging, or printed materials by scanning them with your camera. Copy HEX or RGB codes directly into Figma, Photoshop, or Sketch.
Web & App Development Extract exact color codes (HEX, RGB, HSL) from design mockups, screenshots, or UI references. Paste them straight into CSS, Swift, or Kotlin.
Interior Design & Painting Scan wall colors, fabric swatches, or furniture finishes to find the exact shade. Use RAL matching to find the closest paint reference.
Fashion & Textile Identify and save colors from clothing, fabrics, and accessories to build coordinated outfits and mood boards.
Art & Illustration Sample colors from nature, photographs, or existing artwork to build reference palettes for paintings, digital art, or mixed media.
Education & Color Theory Explore color harmonies, complementary pairs, and contrast ratios. Learn how different color formats (HEX, RGB, HSL, CMYK) relate to each other.
Accessibility Testing Check contrast ratios between foreground and background colors to ensure your designs meet WCAG accessibility guidelines.

How Camera Color Picking Works

Color Picker uses your phone's rear camera to capture a live video feed. A precision crosshair overlay is positioned at the center of the screen, marking the exact pixel being sampled. As you move the camera, the app reads the color value of the pixel under the crosshair in real time and converts it into multiple color formats (HEX, RGB, HSL, CMYK) simultaneously.

For photo-based color picking, the app loads the selected image and allows you to tap on any pixel. The color at the tap coordinates is extracted from the image's pixel data and converted to all supported formats. This works with any image format supported by your device's photo library.

All color processing is performed locally on your device using the camera hardware and GPU. No images or color data are sent to any server. The app requires camera permission solely for live color picking and photo library access solely for gallery-based color extraction.

How accurate is the camera color picker? The accuracy depends on your camera sensor and lighting conditions. For best results, ensure good, neutral lighting and hold the device steady. The app captures the exact pixel color from the camera feed, so the accuracy is limited only by the camera hardware itself.

Can I pick colors from any photo? Yes, you can pick colors from any image stored on your device — photos, screenshots, downloaded images, and design mockups all work.
