LinkedIn highlights resumes rather than active projects.
Discord communities are noisy and unstructured.
Hackathons are time-bound and temporary.
ProjectMatch addresses this gap by combining structured builder profiles, intelligent matching, and real project discovery into a single focused platform.
Each user has a swipeable profile that represents them as a builder, not a social account.
Profiles include:
- Past projects
- Tech stack and tools
- Major achievements (hackathons, internships, open source)
- Personal interests and hobbies
- Preferred collaboration roles and domains
This allows others to quickly understand both capability and intent.
Users discover other builders through a swipe interface:
- Swipe right to express interest in collaborating
- Swipe left to skip
A match occurs only when both users swipe right.
Once matched, GitHub profiles are shared and collaboration can begin.
This ensures that contact happens only when there is mutual interest.
ProjectMatch also provides a dedicated space for active, ongoing projects.
Users can:
- Browse projects looking for collaborators
- Join open projects directly
- Apply to restricted projects
- Post their own projects with defined roles
Each project clearly specifies its problem statement, tech stack, required skills, commitment level, and current stage.
At the core of ProjectMatch is a custom, indigenous recommendation model built specifically for collaboration discovery.
Instead of generic engagement-based ranking, the system analyzes:

- Past interaction and collaboration behavior
These signals are combined to generate high-quality recommendations for both people and projects, reducing randomness and improving match relevance.
ProjectMatch follows a clean, modular system design.
The frontend is built with Next.js and handles UI rendering, swipe interactions, authentication flows, and API communication.
The backend manages business logic such as matching, project lifecycle, recommendation scoring, and access control.
PostgreSQL is used as the primary database, with Prisma ORM ensuring type-safe and maintainable data access.
The recommendation logic operates as a service layer that processes user and project features to produce ranked suggestions.
The overall system is designed to be scalable, privacy-aware, and easy to extend with future features.
ProjectMatch uses passwordless email-based authentication.
Login flow:
- User enters their email address
- A secure magic link is sent to the email
- Clicking the link verifies the session
- The user is redirected directly to their dashboard
This approach removes the need for passwords, improves security, and significantly lowers onboarding friction.
GitHub OAuth is optionally used to link profiles and fetch public project information, but GitHub details are shared only after a mutual match.
