Debian telnet client does not swtich automatically into char-by-char mode

For the best experience char-by-char telnet mode should be used.
This already works for putty by using telnet WILL/WONT/DO/DONT, but not for the telnet client on Debian.
It is possible to do so because when connection to telnetd, the client switches to char-by-char mode
