Ask user to rate app in Play Store?

The overall rating on the Google Play Store is very low. This is a result of the months when the app was blacklisted from the servers and does not reflect the current state of the app.

I'd like to add an opportunity for the user to rate the app. I'm pretty confident that the ratings would rise.

Requirements

• implement only in google flavor
• be nice: give an option to never be asked again
• ask after a few weeks and then after the user has interacted with the app, e.g. has favorited a user, had a conversation, got feedback, etc.

This approach has some interesting points.

Very interesting read, indeed.
Maybe we could introduce some kind of survey bar ("Do you like the app? [Yes] [No]") at the top (or somewhere in the middle of) user profiles that appears every now and then when browsing for hosts.
Someone with design background that wants to take a shot? @jeanfrancoisbeaulieu?

That is a nice approach. We don't have a 'feed' to integrate nicely, and I'm unsure about putting in the user profiles, but that is an option. Maybe a thin bar at the top of the map when searching. I can try a few mockups.

Here's a quick mockup for the notification, using mostly Material Design elements.

The user location button would be pushed up by this first notification.

I like the last proposal the most (green box in the upper left corner) as I think it is the least intrusive. The question is when to show it (and when to hide again). I think it is not a good idea to pop it up when the user is clicking on a host as the flow for the user is then to look at the host rather than being distracted by the rating-notification. Maybe when coming from some fragment back to the map?

Yes, timing is important. I would say:

• when coming back to the map from another view
• not when you open the app.

Also, as mentioned before,

• after having sent and received at least one message
• at least 1 week or maybe 2 from the app install?
• If you haven't rated the app yet

Hide it, either after a set amount of time, or when changing views, or when selecting a host?

Also, for the green option, It would still produce a popup on click with 2 options, rate the app or tell us why you don't like it.
