Turbopack doesn't like top level await

Turbopack unfortunately doesn't have an option for topLevelAwait like webpack v5+. It doesn't seem to work in the example here: #52. If you change packages/playground-shared/package.json to be "@polyglot-sql/sdk": "workspace:*" instead of loading version 0.1.11 then it works. I understand though your reasoning in #44 to not want to include a third build target. Perhaps there is another way that I am missing?

I‘m pretty sure this is a problem with the settings of your bundler. Turbopack should be able to load/bundle pure ESM packages with the correct configuration.

I think the main reason this was an issue for us is that we were loading polyglot in a shared package with the back-end that compiles to CJS. Next and Turbopack loads the ESM version of polyglot on the front-end, but it doesn't work with the top-level await. If we were to have it's own format function within our front-end then it is possible it would work fine.
