Mute the output text from KMeans

I am using it as the default kmeans algorithm in one package. However there's no parameter to control the output information. If there's no control on the information, the output will be a bit messy when performing a cross validation.

From the mlpack side this would be accomplished like this:

Log::Info.ignoreInput = true; // Suppress [INFO ]
Log::Warn.ignoreInput = true; // Suppress [WARN ]

The same is possible for Log::Debug and Log::Fatal too, but fatal output is probably useful and debug output won't be there if the user compiled without debugging symbols (which they should be probably). Warning output might be useful, so maybe suppressing that isn't the best idea.

Anyway, whatever gets done here, that'd be the way to do it. :)

Thanks for the reply! I am currently using the BBmisc::suppressAll to mute the output from RcppMLPACK::mlKmeans.

I am also using the Kmeans function.
The commands:

Log::Info.ignoreInput = true; // Suppress [INFO ] Log::Warn.ignoreInput = true; // Suppress [WARN ]

No member named Log in namespace mlpack

just do not work. They state that these commands were out of date. However, the 'alternative' Rcpp:Rcout just generates output. Also #define MLPACK_DONT_PRINT_MESSAGES does not work. In my case the print output in R consumes 90% of computing time. So, calling a silencing function in R is not an alternative.

Can anyone help me with this?

I have the same problem with the optimizers, e.g. mlpack/core/optimizers/lbfgs_impl.hpp which also seems to have hard-coded the debug output via Rcpp::Rcout which produces too much output. Perhaps some macros could be introduced to control this?

This is the old / deprecated MLPACK. You may want to look at this RcppMLPACk2 repo instead.
