installation on a blank debian box fails

Hey there,
I guess you are missing the python-dev, which allows you to compile it. Sorry about this- could you try installing via ‘sudo apt-get install python-devel’?

this did it: sudo apt-get install lib32z1-dev

It happens on debian based systems with 64 bit CPUs...

Will note it in future.

@rainforestautomation if we want to contribute - are there any guidelines for doing so? I've just made it really easy to install after forking and I'd love to make it install-able from pypi. The requirements are also installed with the following command:

pip install -e .

the fork with the changes is here:
https://github.com/emdem/Eagle-Http-API

Nothing formal, indeed if you did you’d be the second to offer a commit!

Just issue a pull request, Ill try it out and we’ll merge.
