Injecting RPU into Profile 7

Thanks @quietvoid for a great tool. I'm a bit confused about the demux/mux functions. I've extracted hevc from a STDL MKV using ffmpeg -c copy video.hevc and extracted the RPU with extract-rpu. If I then modify the (FEL) RPU and inject it back into video.hevc, having first removed the original RPU, does it automatically get written into the EL or do I need to use demux and mux?

Supplementary: Docs say convert works on 'a single layer HEVC file'. Is that telling me I have to demux the EL out before running convert?

Answered my own question - success after demuxing the EL out. But it seems the demux step isn't necessary.

It's not really clear what you're trying to modify in the RPU.
Your first example can be done using convert, however the editing capabilities are limited.

If you inject back in a BL+EL file, the RPU should be replaced normally but depending on what you edited, it could be invalid for profile 7.

Thanks. It didn't look like -m 2 used on the DL hevc actually wiped the MMR and NLQ coefficients. Maybe I made a mistake.

Checking back, I see I have a file called BL_EL_RPU.hevc. Don't know how that was generated. Some commands take an output file name while others do not.

You most likely want to do convert -m 2 video.hevc --discard
It works here.
