The schematic shown does not protect the micro from the 12v supply, and exposes minus voltages to the micro. It should not be used. I submitted a fork with an alternate simple design that works with 3.3v tolerant MCU

The presented circuit is certainly not the most advanced, but works with components that most electro-junkies have lying around. Most MCUs have protective diodes on their GPIO pins, protecting the device from negative and over-voltage as long as the input resistance is high enough.

Anyway, your suggestion would be more accessible for others if you post your schematic directly in this discussion or as a pull-request, instead of hiding it as a branch in your fork.

Hi - I am not a github expert - I was presented no alternative but to post it the way it got posted. If you can copy it to the right place, that would be awesome.

BTW, the protection diodes are for human body static discharge, the 14v DALI at 260 mA will destroy the MCU via the PNP BE junction, as will a 220 ohm resistor to 12v.

I looked at the GIT - and it very much looks like I copied your cpp and h files

this was not my intent and I suggest I delete all of it. Sorry I don't know GIT very well yet, if you can recommend how to best delete the fork completely, I would appreciate it.
