Horizontal scroll with mouse

I'm a Windows user and intuitively use Shift+mouse wheel to navigate horizontally, scroll sideways when previewing audio, but it doesn't seem to work.
I don't know if this needs to be enabled or if they don't have it yet, but it would be a great addition.

This feature would be great. I usually press Pag Up and Pag Down buttons to move horizontally; other times, I press Zoom out (Ctrl+O), then select with the mouse a new area of interest and then Zoom to selection (Ctrl+N). In both cases I take my right hand off the mouse . This is especially tedious with long audio files.

I recently took a look to Audacity and Adobe Audition, you can move horizontally using SHIFT + WHEEL and it's very helpful.

Yes, and there should also be two-finger scrolling. I never noticed the problem, because both horizontal scrolling methods work correctly in one of my Windows computers (a VM on the Mac), but indeed not on "Windows hardware". I'll chase it.

@PaulBoersma, thank you for the new feature! I have tested it in the SoundEditor and TextGridEditor and it works great.

However, I’ve noticed that Ctrl + Scrolling the wheel is no longer working for vertical scrolling/zooming in this release. Ctrl + Middle-click + Scroll still works as it did in previous releases, but the standard Ctrl + Scroll shortcut seems to have been lost.

Would it be possible to restore the Ctrl + Scrolling behavior? Should I open a new issue for this?

Can you explain to me the expected behaviour? I thought that simply scrolling the mouse wheel would normally implement the vertical scrolling already, so why is the Control key needed?

And in which window do you expect vertical zooming to work?

To clarify, the windows I am referring to are the TextGridEditor and the SoundEditor. In previous releases (verified on praat6421, praat6422, and praat6451), the standard behavior was:

• Ctrl + WheelUp: Zoom In
• Ctrl + WheelDown: Zoom Out

However, this behavior appears to be broken in praat6452 and remains so in the recent praat6453. Currently, the Ctrl key + scroll wheel does not trigger the zoom on its own. Instead, I found that I have to use the combination Ctrl + Middle Button + Wheel to zoom.

I have been talking to other colleagues who also use Praat, and they also found the Ctrl + Wheel behavior to be more useful. Is this an intentional change, or a bug that can be fixed in a future build?

Additionally, my friends and I noticed something else that we thought might be worth mentioning: we found it would be very helpful if zooming were applied to the cursor position instead of the center of the view. It is just an observation we wanted to share in case you'd like to consider it for a future update
