Here I want to discuss a reduced scope for a version of the editor that focuses on providing just enough tools to build a blockout from a blank canvas.
User creates basic geometry such as boxes and changes their sizes to create a floor, walls and obstacles.
User can fly an editor camera around to position with.
User groups and names the new meshes.
User adds a blockout texture to the meshes.
User sets background color.
User sets fog.
User creates a directional light and reorients it. Turns shadows on.
User adds an environment skybox.
User creates a perspective camera and orients it. Sets it as default.
User can hit play to see the blockout through the camera.
