Consider volto-advanced-variations add-on

@astridjuizi mentioned that @aboycalledhero had recently been using https://github.com/rnunez80/volto-advanced-variations and thought it would be a good candidate for plone.org.

I haven’t yet tried out this add-on, but there is a video tutorial highlighting some of the features.

Our events page https://plone.org/news-and-events/events uses a multi-column card layout, however this add-on provides some neat customizations such as start/end dates, calendar images, and easy propagation of a carousel.

@aboycalledhero Can you comment on this ticket and share your experience? Perhaps explain some of the features you found to be most useful? Thanks!

@rnunez80 can you comment on the requirements of your add-on, specifically Volto version and whether it is compatible with Volto Light Theme?

@stevepiercy This is currently in production and offers various options for presenting the results of listing and search blocks. I’m running it on Volto 17.18.2, and I haven’t tested it with Volto-light-theme yet, but in theory, it should work since it’s just a variation for search and listing blocks. There are many options for what’s displayed and how it’s displayed. I’ve attached a sample page with some options at https://www.york.cuny.edu/it/webi/volto#advance-listing-variation there are some examples here, but it all depends on your specific combination of options. I will try to test it with volto-light-theme and volto 18 this weekend.

@stevepiercy I have successfully implemented volto-advanced-variations for Volto 18. The carousel variation requires some refinement, primarily due to the usage of react-slick and the need for additional CSS styling. However, the functionality of the advanced listing is operational. I am currently investigating the best method to install add-ons (and volto-light-theme) for Volto 18 since I have not deploy any volto 18 yet.

I've just started using the volto-advanced-variation on a client site that is in production. We're using and Volto 18.4.0 and Volto Light Them ^6.0.0-alpha.7

My only big issue (and request) would be that there should be an option to show the Creator/Author of the item as well.

Everything works as expected, but I'd like to offer some feedback on specific styling issues. Not sure if that is best done here @rnunez80 , or if I can send those to you directly.

Hi @aboycalledhero I will add the option for creator/author (assuming it is in the search results)

I have only briefly tested with VLM and did notice a a few issues with the styles that need to be adjusted. when it was created and styled it was based on default theme for volto. you can send the feedback here, it's fine.
