Description
A Label system could help Plebbit in several ways:
- Bookmarking Content
- Characterizing Users
- Reducing Spam
- Sharing World View
- Highlighting Content
- Moderation
A label system could be enhanced with:
- Colours
- Collections
- Import/Exports
- Subscriptions
- Ownership
- Permissions
- Public/Private/Group settings
For example, a Plebbitor could create a Label, "Funny". This label could be assigned arbitrarily to a thread, a post in a thread, or a user. Later, the user could browse through their "Funny" Label page and re-find that funny post from long ago.
If a Plebbitor were Labeled "Funny", that tag would show during future browsing of Plebbit. It would alert the user that there was a Funny Plebbitor around, and so to pay particular attention to their posts, or read those posts in a certain frame of mind.
A "Spam" or "Spammer" post could help the Plebbitor filter out content. If the Label were made public, this might be of assistance to additional Plebbitors. For example, the "Spam" Label might be used as a Kill-File.
Publicizing one's opinion through use of Labels might enhance the value of Plebbit, through socialized reading scoring. A Label might come with a Superscript, or Subscript for example, to provide an indication of just how many people thought something was "Funny123"
We could also "see the world as others see us", if we are able to share our system of Labels with others. This could help us get to know a community rapidly, or show us the ropes.
Some people are interested only in "Funny" content, and there could be an RSS/Atom feed for them to stay up to date with everything that is "Funny", never missing anything.
By using a personalized Label system, one could establish one's own standards for what constitutes "Funny". Some people might say, "That's not Funny!". Others may disagree. You could come to your own conclusions, and Label or re-Label, as such.
Certain people might become recognized as authorities on what constitutes "Funny", and defer to them. You might call them "The Funniest Man on Plebbit". If they say it is "Funny", then "Funny" it is, as far as you are concerned.
By seeing which people disagree with "The Funniest Man on Plebbit", which would be possible by examining their counter-signalling of "Funny" Labels, one could establish a cluster of Plebbitors which one could assign to a Group/Label: "Not Funny". You would never have to hear from somebody who was "Not Funny" ever again.
One could use Labels to assist with Moderation, if you assigned supernatural powers to particular Labels, for example, the ability to boot a Plebbitor or some Content from a sub-Plebbit. You might need to re-assign these powers later, depending on circumstances.
To make the Label system more effective, Colours, their shades, intensity/saturation could be used to enhance information presentation. For example, a pale green colour might indicate a few people found something "Funny", but darker greens would indicate increasing numbers of Plebbitors found it "Funny" too.
Labels could be organized into groups, for example "Funny" in animals, "Funny" in cats. You could also assign a collection of Labels to an individual. This could help us learn from others, or a particularly "Funny" person.
You might want to export/import backups of your important Label systems, to share with others or use later, or even to delete them.
As time progresses, you might develop a growing body of "Funny" items, and people may wish to follow you in your journey, through an RSS/Atom subscription. If your sense of humour changes over time, it might be useful to have a chronology connected to the Label assignments too.
You might like to create a limited access to your sense of humour, by defining Plebbitors who may be able to, optionally, view your own Funny layer. You could retain control over this group by granting permission to use it. You could banish people from your "Funny" world, if you decided they spoiled the fun.
