An interesting linguistic coincidence regarding the name "Kash"

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say thank you for building KashCal. As someone who really values open-source software and privacy, finding a clean, native calendar app with built-in CalDAV and ICS synchronization is exactly what I've been looking for.

I was looking through the strings.xml file and noticed the comment. I totally respect wanting to keep the global branding consistent. That said, I wanted to share a thought about a possible Chinese name for the launcher label (app_name)—"开序日历" (Simplified) / "開序月曆" (Traditional)—that I think fits the project's philosophy beautifully.

In Chinese, the name "开序" (Kāi Xù) works on a few different levels. First, the pronunciation of "开" (Kāi) sounds very close to the start of "Kash" or "Cache". Second, "开" is the literal shorthand we use for open-source (开源). Finally, "序" means order, sequence, or programme—which is exactly what a calendar does by bringing a clean structure to our schedules. So together, it basically translates to "An open-source programme that brings order to time."

On highly customised home screens, native characters often blend in much better with local UI grids and card layouts than a forced English string. It just gives the interface a cleaner, more cohesive look.

I was wondering if you’d be open to considering this for the values-zh and values-zh-rTW locale files down the road? No worries at all if you prefer to keep it strictly English everywhere, but I thought it was a neat cultural fit worth sharing.

Not sure whether I have a point of vie won this yet - even if we wanted to, could there be an IP/Trademark conflict? So the translation will show on the Top App bar, correct?

If any of the KashCal users can help with IP conflict, we can think about that; short of that, I don't think we want to get into that territory

Glad you find it interesting! Just a quick heads-up on those points:

It actually won't touch the Top App Bar inside the app at all—it only changes the text under the home screen icon. Everything inside stays "KashCal", so your branding is totally safe.

Also, I actually thought of an even better tweak for the name: "开序历" (Simplified) / "開序曆" (Traditional). Cutting it down to 3 characters looks way more minimalist under the icon, and "历" is the exact standalone word for "Calendar".

Legal-wise, no worries at all. It's a completely unique, made-up phrase, so there's zero risk of any IP conflict. If anything, officially having it actually protects the project from sketchy clones.

Anyway, just my two cents. No pressure at all if it doesn't fit your vision.
