<b>Content:</b><br />AATOS
The basic idea is a full fledge operating system for accessibility that can connect to various projects and solutions in assistive technology called: Augmentative Assistive Technology Operating System (AATOS). AATOS is a low cost open source accessibility toolbox platform for people with physical disabilities. At the wake of our digital world we run the risk of creating a digital divide for those who have the means and physical abilities and those you don't have the mean of expensive technologies and have some severe, medium or minor disabilities.
The project plans carried out by Bruyère Continuing Care and its significant number of partners, volunteers and universities using their combined skills and expertise will result from having an optimum technology set available that allows persons with various degrees of disability gain full access to all forms of digital services in a cost effective and reliable fashion

<b>Moderator:</b><br /><b> Michelle Schira Hagerman</b><br/> Assistant Professor of Educational Technology in the Faculty of Education. She studies the interactions of Maker pedagogies and literacies learning for young adolescents.<br />
<b>Panelists:</b>

<b>Julie-Anne Turner</b>, an M.A. student in the Faculty of Education whose research focuses on the design and impact of maker-oriented professional learning for in-service teachers
</li>
<li> <b>Jean-Luc Ciocca</b>, an M.A. student in the Faculty of Education whose M.A. research explored the complexities of teachers' maker-based planning processes.
</li>
<li>
<b>Jonathan Weber</b>, a PhD student in the Faculty of Education whose work focuses on pre-service teachers' emergent Maker identities.
</li>
</ul>
<b>Content:</b><br />This bilingual (French-English) panel discussion will include talks by four researchers from the Faculty of Education who study a range of topics in the field of Making and Maker-based approaches to teaching and learning. In particular, panelists will discuss what is currently understood about Making as a pedagogical approach for learning in K-12 schools; how teachers plan maker activities; how in-service and pre-service teachers come to self-identify as Makers and why it is important to research teacher learning if systems of schooling are to mobilize Making as learning at scale. Each panelist will focus on the practical implications of their work for students and teachers in schools.

<b>Content:</b><br />This panel will examine the African maker movement’s efforts to foster innovation-inclusion through outreach to grassroots innovators including youth, schoolchildren, and girls and women. The moderator and panelists, who are a mix of practitioners and researchers, will reflect on current innovation-inclusion dynamics in the maker movement in 9 African countries: Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and South Africa. The panel is being convened by the Open African Innovation Research (Open AIR) network, www.openair.org.za, which is headquartered at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law's Centre for Law, Technology and Society (CLTS) and the University of Cape Town Faculty of Law, with additional hubs in East, West and North Africa.

<b>Content:</b><br />This panel will feature three social enterprises that are making an impact globally. These social enterprises are leveraging the maker-movement to empower people. The first venture is Soap2Hope. Soap2Hope makes and sell soaps that are inspired by nature. It also provide hygiene coaching and products to villages in Africa. The second venture is Beads of Awareness. Bead of Awareness sells beautiful hand-made products that are developed by women in Africa who are now financially independent. The moderator is Midia Shikh Hassan who is the co-founder of Dextra that provides 3D printed prosthetics to amputated refugees and children.

<b>Content:</b><br />In January 2018, the university opened new spaces to focus on active learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. These technology-rich settings are excellent for collaborative work. Library facilities are on the second and fifth floors of the new building. This one-hour activity in the Tinkering Lab will allow you to manipulate maps on an 8K video wall. You will test virtual reality equipment and new tools, such as Oculus Rift and Nintendo Switch game consoles. Join us in discovering the library spaces in CRX!
