When someone hasn't used nostr before they can't really use nostrocket.

Solution:

create an onboarding page to set up a new profile

suggest them to use alby or whatever as a signing extension

implement seed words for recovery and provide a tool for converting between single nsec and seed words

Proposal for Easier Onboarding of New Users

From my experience, key management (nsec) is one of the biggest entry barriers for new users. I therefore suggest the following onboarding concept, which aligns well with the issue of improving the experience for nostr newcomers:

1. New users automatically receive a temporary, generated nsec (key) with a test account, allowing them to start immediately without hurdles. Optionally, some user credentials and recommended clients could be pre-selected.

2. They are then guided through an interactive tutorial that showcases the key features and possibilities of nostrocket/hypergolic. The guide should be engaging – inspired by examples from interesting Nostr video talks.

3. Only after users have tried and understood the main features does the prompt appear that they should now take key management into their own hands and generate and secure their own key.

This way, new users first experience the platform's possibilities without being deterred by technical hurdles right away. Key management is then presented as an advanced but necessary step once some understanding and interest have been established.

Additionally, I've been thinking about similar onboarding and key management ideas in my own project Satoshi-Rooms – a web-based Nostr client for decentralized group communication. It targets beginners and veterans with simple instructions for nsec login to ease the entry into Nostr. The repo is currently in German, but an English translation will follow soon.
