Hello everyone.
I want to share a simple track I made with this AddOn.
Here are the relevant files:

You may have to adjust the MIDI connection parameters in the MIDI Input node, in order to input the MIDI events from the included MIDI file, and you'll need to adjust the path for the .wav files.
I edited the MIDI file with MIDI-Editor (http://www.midieditor.org/index.php?category=download)
Eventually, you could need to download LoopMIDI too. (https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html)

I hope you'll enjoy playing with this as I enjoyed making it up.

Sorry, you're right.
Here are the directions:

1. Open the attached midi.blend file
2. In the samplers, load the .mp3s

3. Open LoopMidi
4. In the MIDI Input node, click on Configure MIDI button, then select LoopMIDI

5. Open GabryBass.mid with MidiEditor, hit play and hit Run/Stop on the Clock node.

You should now be able to hear the sound.

P.S.: You might have to tweak the BPM to set it to 480 BPM.
I did this to made the Trigger Sequencer nodes behave as a 4/4 time signature tempo.

pretty cool! Opened my mind a bit in a sense that I was using envelope in unnecessary complicated way. For some reason it didn't occur to me that I could just plug it to amplitude of oscillator so I was always plugging both oscillator and envelope to multiply 🤦

continuing the "free-form" conversation, I wanted to note that I've tried modular synths such as BespokeSynth, Pure Data and PlugData.
I love all of them but always catch my self getting back to the idea "man I wish I could do this in blender and have it interact with other stuff in it " in the most simple therms.
I think that somewhat captures the potential strengths of having audio synthesizer integrated as add-on in blender.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this but I felt the need to share that.

Uhm, I regret to suggest this, but did you ever try Ossia Score?
It integrates with Blender and works with Puredata, among others.
I say I regret, because it's in my interest to promote use of Blender as sound processing.

No I haven't seen that one to be honest. Thanks for the suggestion. It seems interesting, I'll check it out.
I sympathize with idea of "Blender for audio processing" although I heard before opinions that "it's not a good idea to make software like Blender in to a DAW" which I partially understand, but not fully.
I'm guessing this opinion stems from lack of foundational support but idk.

Through the scripting API I was apparently able to add keyframes, but there were some showstopping issues with it IIRC, and we would have to interpolate the keyframes manually in the backend.

Edit: No, it was not the scripting API - I had to make modifications to the Blender source. It still wasn't a great UX and there might have been issues with project save/load.

Proper support would have to integrate with depsgraph, and I have no idea how that should work..
