Uninstalling a VisualStudio.Extensibility extension still requires closing Visual Studio

I was under the impression that part of the appeal of the VisualStudio.Extensibility extensions was the ability to install and uninstall extensions without closing VS, but it seems I can only install them, uninstalling still requires closing VS. Is that a bug I'm hitting, or by design, or just not implemented yet? Thanks!
