Stop using caribou

Clutter and related libraries were archived by their maintainers in 2022.

Caribou was archived in 2023 (although I tried to archive it sooner in 2019 but it looks like I didn't see a follow-up request).

Caribou is now the last thing in Debian using Clutter and Caribou is only used by cinnamon and cinnamon-screensaver. It appears that cinnamon recently stopped using Caribou [although a new upstream release is still needed], but cinnamon-screensaver is still using Caribou.

By the way, there was earlier discussion in the lengthy #354 about stopping using caribou.

From what I read a while ago, the screensaver it will need to be redone, perhaps integrated into Cinnamon. This will provide support for Wayland and use the new integrated screen keyboard, and hopefully also improved security (these issues seem to be the ones with the most interest). For the next version, they've already done a lot of work, including removing use of Caribou from Cinnamon. Perhaps they'll switch to the screensaver in the next version.

It also seems that unfortunately there are continuous changes to gnome components that require further work and forks from the cinnamon team to keep it good, such as the theming parts which is something where they seem to put more pressure from users for improvements or even just to have things working as before

This is correct, cinnamon-screensaver is the last remaining user of caribou and that should be eliminated in 6.8 (not this pending release but the following.

To sum up: Arch Linux users who upgraded to Cinnamon 6.6 and now have a non-working lock screen are affected because the Caribou package is missing.

Go and bug the archlinux package maintainer instead!! , it's his fault he didn't include it in the package deps.

Oh please, that wasn't meant to be offensive.
If it was, sorry. I just wanted to point it out so others with the same issue know they need to wait for a newer version.
I'll try to inform the package maintainer.
I really appreciate the work that goes into the Cinnamon desktop environment, it's one of the few desktop environments that still offers a smooth and pleasant experience on X11. 👍🏼
