Existing 8-Layer support?

Hi! I see portions of the code that hints it already supports up to eight layers, not just the four shown in the web UI. I updated my own fork of the code to enable this and it seems to work, but I'm not sure if there's some edge case that I'm unaware of that's causing issues. Can you comment on this? I know others have asked about this as well (See #44 for an example.)

If it is actually supported, is there a reason it's disabled in the UI? And if it isn't yet supported but we can get it working, do you take submissions? (Yes, I know we can fork our own branch--and I've done exactly that--but if it can help the larger audience, we'd love to contribute!)

The firmware itself supports 8 layers, I just haven't figured out a nice way to squeeze it in the UI.

Hey @jfedor2, in case you missed it, just calling out I recently put up a new PR (#332) (re)introducing eight-layer support to the UI. Check it out and lemme know what you think (or if there are any changes you'd like me to make.)

Note: This is not in any way related to the one I put up last year where I completely bastardized the HTML. In contrast, this is an entirely new version which better follows proper Bootstrap usage/norms. It's also a much smaller code-change making it easier to follow. Plus it looks better too! You can check it out live on my site here (also referenced in the PR descrioption.)

Semi-related, I was recently on a video call with Joe Scotto over on YouTube who has a channel all about custom keyboards. While bs'ing about things, he mentioned a lot of his clients are always asking about customizing existing boards and I gave him a crash-course on your project. He was blown away and immediately ordered an Adafruit Feather, adding he thinks it would make a great video for his channel. He said he'd show it off with my page since it has all eight layers, but honestly, it should be yours that's shown so if you get this merged, I can tell him to use your page instead. I don't have a need to drive people to my site anyway. No projects and nothing to sell. Plus, this is your baby. I'm just happy to help.
