After Mint update some icons are broken

as you can see, all the icons of the text editor have changed, along with several other small system icons. For example, in Panel Preferences → General → Dark mode, the icons look different than before.

I’m also having issues with the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons.
when Wi-Fi is turned off, the Chicago icon appears correctly.

I encountered the same issue, but I regret to say I was unable to resolve it. In the end, I switched to use Xubuntu 22.04 LTS with Xfce 4.16 to address the problem. Incidentally, this release currently requires registration for Ubuntu Pro (free for personal users) to receive the latest security updates.

Nowadays, Cinnamon often doesn't read icon schemes from other themes. So, I adapted the Chicago95 theme specifically for Cinnamon, and now the new version of Linux Mint should be able to read icons from this theme. Download the file from the link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xYk71K5lpgAwm5V2il5LpRKWBFmTtKYr/view?usp=drive_link and unzip it, preserving the paths, to the Chicago 95 icon theme folder. This isn't a standalone theme, but an add-on for an existing theme. Here's roughly what I got – see screenshot

I have Cinnamon 6.6.7 myself, so I can definitely confirm this. But I also have Manjaro. So I can only assume my fix should work fine on Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon.

The glitch in the top left corner is happening because I'm using 200% scaling, and if I change it back to 100%, the icons don't extend beyond the window header. There's another solution, though. If you enter the command

gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout ':minimize,maximize,close'

in Terminal, the icon at the top of the window won't appear at all. But if You would not like this, you can bring it back with the command

gsettings reset org.cinnamon.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout

What version of Mint have you tested it on? Would you mind setting your desktop to 2160p with 150% scaling and taking a full screen 2160p screenshot please so I can see what it looks like with that glitch fixed. I was going to resort to using a Windows XP theme but if your fix looks good then I'll use that.

Do you have any instructions for how you did your mod? It sounds like you know programming so I'm surprised you don't know CSS as CSS is really easy. I don't know programming but I know CSS. It's pretty easy, you could learn it in a few hours. In HTML for example if I wanted to CSS style a box for putting text inside then I'd do this in HTML:

I haven't tested this modification specifically on Linux Mint. But I know that GTK themes with the same graphical design, like Cinnamon, generally work fine across different distributions, and if we're talking about icon themes, the only issues are likely to be with specific icons that aren't available in other distributions. But I've read that in recent versions of Linux Mint, they're switching to xsi icons regardless of the desktop environment. If that's true, then we believe the icons should mostly work across all versions of Linux Mint.

No, I don't know programming. I only make icon themes. All you have to do is go into the theme's system icon label, like Hicolor, look at which icons are in which folders and what their names are, and then create a label for your own theme, where these icons will have the same names and be located in the same folders as in the theme template. This is how I make icon themes.

And the Terminal commands I mentioned above—I look them up on Google or the GPT chat above.

I can't test the resolution you're asking for; my monitor can handle 1920x1080 at most.

I'm not sure, but I think fonts in Cinnamon and Mate (I don't know about other environments) are controlled not by selecting a theme, but in the general settings. So, in these environments, you still have to set the fonts yourself. For example, in Cinnamon, you do this: System Settings -> Font Selection

Thanks for the info. Is there any way to increase the height of the title bar as the close and maximize buttons are too small when in 2160p resolution so they're harder to click on.
