a suggestion on historical chat selection

Currently to look for earlier chats one can only select from the horizontal tabs above, which is difficult if one have a lot of chats.
I wonder if it is possible to add a page which displays the history of chats and the chat tabs are displayed as vertical tabs (just like in ChatGPT), and I think it can make looking for history a lot more convenient.

In my original implementation I had it exactly like that. I decided against it mostly cause it was taking a lot of space (instead of a couple of horizontal lines) so I decided to go for tabs instead.

I am open to the idea though... Perhaps there could be yet another shortcut that opens the vertical menu...
I am not going to immediately work on this as I have limited time atm, but happy to help any takers if there are any. Otherwise I will get to it eventually, you have to be patient though.

Hi, this is an interesting issue that I would like to tackle. I'm ready to take this up. I'm planning on doing it through opening a fuzzy finder kind of thing?? In terms of UI, it would be quite similar to MacBook's Spotlight search. As of now, in the initial implementation, I'm thinking of only displaying some initially through the chat_model.id/chat_model.name . Looking forward to working on this.

An interesting extension would be to summarize the chat and give it a title. But that's perhaps another PR.

@ggozad, if I were to create a summarise chat extension, would you prefer it to be stored in the ChatModel.name, or create a new attribute ChatModel.summary?? (As now so that I don't disturb any of the existing code, I'm using the latter.)

@MandaKausthubh Like I said, I would first get the autocompletion ui & implementation working first, using just the id & title, then add the summary later.
It's kind of a more complex scenario, you could say summarize from the first prompt and make a title out of it, but often these chats can last long enough for that summary to become bad. I am not sure what the right UX would be. Another idea would be to summarize on "rename". As in when you rename a chat, oterm could suggest a title. There are many alternative ways to do that, I would concentrate on your initial suggestion first and then we can discuss and figure out something for the summary later if you still wanna tackle it.
