Checksum the module data to get a version number. On first invoke, check the device has the most up to date code.

Could you elaborate on this? Are we using the body of a module (i.e. the compiled binary, it's name and other metadata, etc.) to "compute" the version as a checksum? Is a version manually assigned but then just associated with a checksum? What exact data is involved here and how is it used?

This is different than the version number.

We need a way to determine if the module that is on the device matches the bindings that are calling it. The simplest way to do this is to checksum the module executable. If there is a difference, we need to reupload and reinstall the module.
