document poperties MIA on newly created documents

To reproduce

1. create a new document
2. (optional) change default name
3. save
4. right click
5. properties should be visible in the menu, but are missing.

after editing the file's contents in the editor pane and saving again, the menu is visible. So i assume this is related to #521 and #414
