hello! Just stumbled upon this package by happenstance. I think you might find this discussion valuable from the Julia discourse. I also don't know if you are familiar with BlockBandedMatrices.jl, but there may be overlapping effort here. I also have some implementations for a few block-tridiagonal algorithms I could implement at some point if you are interested. Anyways, GLW the package, looks great!

Hello! Thank you for reaching out. I really appreciate you bringing the Julia discourse discussion to my attention. I'll definitely take a look. I'm also aware of BlockBandedMatrices.jl, and I agree that there are some similarities between the two packages. However, this package was created for matrices that arise as the non-compressible part of hierarchical matrices and FMMs, which are not necessarily block-banded.

Your offer to implement block-tridiagonal algorithms is very kind, and I'd be more than happy to discuss the details with you if you're interested.

Oh I see! Out of curiosity, is this package designed to be a general-purpose tool for any type of block-sparse matrix? Or ones specific to the cases you mention? If its the former, then block banded matrices would naturally be a subset of these, and intercommunication could be useful? I ask because I'm trying to determine where to spend my efforts i.e., contributing to one or both of these packages. I'm doing time-series analysis with a Markovian assumption so block-tridiagonal systems appear all the time.
