[Bug]: (W11) Sessions are not being displayed in sidebar (and more!)

Summary

After updating to the latest stable v0.13.3 via a reinstall (necessary as in-software-update to new Backend was not successful), I have a couple of issues:

1. All previous sessions are not displayed in the sidebar anymore.
2. All workspaces got lost and I'm left with only "Starter", whose config was maintained though.
3. New sessions (chats) are not being displayed in the sidebar. Not even when not restarting the software inbetween. I can start a chat and use it mostly fine however it never gets added to the sidebar and when starting a new chat, the previous one seems to just be lost.
4. Content of a session disappears seconds after answer was completed by the LLM until I hit reload.
5. There's constant pop-ups asking me to reload the application cause open-work.md files were modified. (wasn't me - Shaggy)

To Reproduce

1. Open OpenWork v0.13.3 on W11.
2. Create a session in the Starter-Workspace by sending off a prompt.

Expected behavior

• Previous workspaces and sessions are displayed in the sidebar
• Session appears in the sidebar beneath the Workspace
• LLM answer gets displayed in the session-window and is persistent

Actual behavior

• Sidebar only ever displays "Starter"-Workspace and not a single session, neither from current runtime, nor from previous ones.
• New sessions don't get added to sidebar
• LLM answer disappears seconds after finalized until I hit reload.

Hi @Splintix98 ! I tried reproducing this on both a clean WSL dev build and a clean Windows 11 install of v0.13.3, but I wasn’t able to replicate any of the issues you described .Sessions show up correctly and content persists as expected.

Since you mentioned the app update via reinstall to the new backend failed, my guess is that this may be related to a database/state migration issue where the existing session or workspace data didn’t migrate properly to the new backend format.

Could you help narrow it down a bit by answering a few questions?
Which version were you upgrading from before installing v0.13.3?
After the failed in-app update, did you fully uninstall the app before reinstalling, or just reinstall over the existing installation?
Did you clear the %APPDATA%\openwork folder before reinstalling?
Are there any error logs available? You can export them from settings -> Debug inside the app.

Strange ...
Unfortunately I'm not sure anymore about whether it was a reinstall or an update install. I also don't know which version I came from except that it wasn't older than v0.12.
I did not clear the appdata folder.

Unfortunately I won't be near the affected PC for a couple days but I will get back to you on Monday.

I was fixing some other bug and i came across this issue .Earlier it was all fine but now it is happening more often .And the weird part is it seems to be happening at random time . Sometimes it is working fine , sometimes just after a query it all goes blank and after one refresh it comes back again .
That being said , i will look into this tomorrow (I am working on another issue currently ) till then if you find any more information regarding this please share it here , so that we can come up with a solution as soon as possible .

I had the same exact problem. I solved by doing a clean reinstall (disinstalled and then removed every file/directory named openwork in my computer).

I can reproduce the session content persist issue. After a response, sometimes the scroll area of the session shrinks so I can't see the latest response content. I have to switch to another session and back to see it again. Mac OS version 0.13.5.

So I tried reinstalling and came across a few things in the process:

• Hitting "uninstall" in Windows does not delete config data as a standard and (and this is the problem) doesn't offer an option to do so.
• Uninstalling and then manually deleting basically everything related to OpenWork from my c:\users<user> folder, appdata\local and appdata\roaming makes the app look like it's a fresh install but after creating a new workspace old chats reappear and previously connected providers are also connected again. This should really not be the case!
• After a "clean" reinstall the chats seem to be persistent again and seem to appear in the sidebar
• However the application is still broken as a whole: I can send a few messages and get replies but at some point my last message won't be visible in the chat but I'm still getting the "Thinking" animation. This takes on forever. Reloading won't make my message appear but will make the "Thinking" animation go away. Starting a new chat at that point will not help, my first message will never be visible. This is independent of the model I'm using (tried with big-pickle and GPT-5.4 provided by OpenAI connected via the subscription).

• The model thinking level will at some point just not be available anymore for selection. At first for GPT-5.4 I could select 'Balanced' or 'Maximum' or whatever and later at some point I just won't be offered the selection anymore.

At the current stage of this software it is completely unusable unfortunately.
I would very much welcome the addition of a "remove all config" toggle during uninstalls at the very least.

I actually did not see earlier that version 0.13.5 was released, also because 0.13.3 was still the newest available via WinGet. I have now updated to 0.13.5 and I'm mostly happy.
The only issue that I found so far is that after the LLM has finished answering, it's answer disappears until I reload the window. After reloading it's all good.

Also even though after I uninstalled 0.13.3 I once again deleted everything that I could find that was related to OpenWork, it was still already connected to OpenAI as a provider when I "freshly" installed 0.13.5.
