After adding a command on the shell, I need a trailing space before return executes the command

I find that sometimes I need to have a trailing space before hitting return. Execute the command on the shell.

Without the trailing space, when I hit return, nothing appears to happen in the shell.

How can I help debug this?

I just added a diagnostic command for it.
So fetch the latest ghostel version and then
the next time this happens, call M-x ghostel-debug-keypress and then try to press return, then we should see that it is not working.. and then make the same for comparison when it is working after you pressed space.

also the output of M-x ghostel-debug-info would be helpful.

The command was cd some/path and from this I guess it was being detected as a link :)

Should link detection be mode-based? Like in copy mode, link detection can be enabled, but at the prompt, it shouldn't be enabled?

Ah you used tty emacs, that's why I couldn't reproduce it.
Can you check the latest commit? what you input should not be linkified now (until you press enter at least)

What shell are you using? It only works when your shell is emitting OSC 133 marker.

Could it be because point 16 is where my cursor is, and that classifies as not prompt and not input?
