Announcement: Deprecating GTK-3 Support and Sunsetting itlog Repository

We are announcing important changes to the impress GUI library to streamline our maintenance efforts and focus on modern, actively-maintained dependencies.

1. Dropping GTK-3 Support

The default impress library terminal will be discontinuing support for GTK-3 in an upcoming release.

What this means:

• GTK-3 backend implementations will be removed from the codebase, but will remain in the previously tagged version
• Users requiring GTK-3 impress terminal should migrate to GTK-4 version
• This reduction will decrease maintenance surface

Migration timeline:

• March 1st, before GTK-3 support is removed
• We recommend users using GTK-3 impress termianl to plan their migration to GTK-4

2. Retiring the itlog Repository

The codeation/itlog repository will be archived and sunset.

Context:

• itlog was a developer version of impress terminal, created as a part of the GUI library experimental work
• Its functionality has been superseded by developments in the main impress library
• Maintaining this as a separate repository adds unnecessary overhead

What happens:

• No new features or updates will be accepted
• The repository will be archived but remain accessible for historical reference
