BU Calendar registration URLs *not* converted to links in Responsive (but are converted in MET site)

We’ve identified a minor issue with the /foodstudies event calendar.

When an event is submitted with a registration link via the BU Calendar app, the link correctly appears and is hyperlinked on the Food Studies home pagehttps://www.bu.edu/foodstudies/. However, on the event details page, the registration link is displayed as plain text and is not hyperlinked.
Here’s an example:

For comparison, the /met website does hyperlink the registration link on the details page, as seen here:

Could this same functionality be enabled on the Food Studies event details page?

Hi Damian,

The event pages you sent me -- both the one on MET and the one on Food Studies -- have simply the event registration URL in the BU Calendar app. So there is no difference how the URL is treated within the Calendar app.

What is different? MET uses a custom theme, Food Studies uses the generic BU framework.

So it would appear to me that a) the default theme does not convert URLs to links; and b) the MET theme does convert the URLs to links.

Bottom line - you are asking for custom functionality that is in the MET theme, but you want to use that in the generic BU theme. That would not be possible without changes to the code in our foundational framework. I can (and will) send the ticket to MarCom for their consideration, but I strongly suspect the functionality would not be back-fitted to the generic framework. If anything, they may incorporate the custom functionality into a future version of the generic framework.

Thanks for clarifying the issue.

It’s unfortunate that the hyperlink doesn’t render on the event details page. From a user experience perspective, it would be much more helpful if users could click the registration URL directly from that page, not just the home page.

If a full fix isn’t feasible, would it be possible to simply replicate the “Register” button from the home page onto the details page as a workaround?

@SigurdTheBruce Here's what's going on:

Food Services is using BULP, which we detect and render the URLs correctly.

The single-event-fields.php file just spits out the fields, and does not make the modifications for the urls. THis is true on both Responsi2 theme and the BU Responsive Customizations plugin.

I can make a fix to both the Respons2 theme, and the Customizations plugin to detect when a field is a url and add the appropriate markup for it.

Should take about 2-4h, not including testing several sites. I can check with the sites in my sandbox, but it might be better to get a larger sample to test against.
