xcomw wotc crashes after gate keeper video, with error that xbox failed to comm w. dco

Description
After launching xcom worc game crashes when trying to load first mission. The fololowing error appears in the system log:

The server Windows.Gaming.GameBar.PresenceServer.Internal.PresenceWriter did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

I get the error even if no mods are selected.
Regular xcom launches fine.
XCOM WOTC launches fine when started from the steam app.

I uninstalled and reinstalled xcom and aml.
I removed all xbox apps and then got several xbox apps from the ms store
I am running win10, fully patched and AMD driver 24.9.1 (the latest).
