feat: VN mode

This is also sort of connected to #2.

I am thinking about implementing a basic prototype which will include some features adjacent to #2. Before I do that though, what are the changes of a merge? Because this could plausibly be a system built on top of orb, but it could also be a distinct mode of Orbs core functionality.

I need to give it some thought. This will take some serious effort and leave us with a lot more to maintain and test in the future. Personally I would like to avoid feature creep like SillyTavern if possible. I think we should stay in our lane and let someone else make a VN-like frontend and make it really well.

Perhaps so. But I think this can still be done in a way which does not create a lot of long-term pain. As long as it is done as a module which is not a part of the core code base and attaches to the code shallowly through standardized interfaces. Which is actually where a past issue ties in #1. Of course, if that were to happen, those interfaces would need to be maintained, but I think it can be done rather minimally.

I suggest this: I will make a basic prototype, you will see if you find the extra burden acceptable and worth the gains or not, and things will develop from there.
