The app does not display controls on the notification drawer or the lock screen

Steps to Reproduce

1. Install the app and launch it
2. Start playback
3. Open the notification drawer
4. Lock the device

Expected Behavior

The application can be controlled both from the notification drawer and from the lock screen.

Actual Behavior

The user doesn't receive any permission requests, including notification requests. Playback controls are only available when the app is open, or perhaps using the headset buttons.
