PROTOCOL_ID: this was intended to be a reference_id to actual (published) protocols, articles etc. describing the method more in detail. There may be similar reference_ids for extraction, fractionation etc. that are relevant to capture to provide traceability for the methods. has this been implemented in combination with the functionality for the REFERENCE_ID in previous sections?

Strongly agree on ChMo, but I think it needs a little curation from us beforehand. There's loads of room for improvement on the Methods/Protocols section, but I think it's important we capture both generalities (what sort of protocol is it) and specifics (citation/ISO standard/SOP). The former is very useful for AEPs and quick quality assessment, but you want the latter if you're doing more detail work.

This will require a bit of thought, though. As you say it would be ideal if we could reuse the reference ID format to cite methods. I'd also like to rename a lot of the columns to something more sensible, but as it is because they're currently in use on the AEP downstream I don't want to risk breaking anything. But we can make a redesign and harmonisation high priority in the next version.
