Paint on template/scribble tool: eraser selection not remembered

The scribbling tool does not remember selection of the the eraser.

1. Select Paint On Template tool
2. Select eraser
3. Choose another tool, say "Pan tool"
4. Select Paint On Template again

Actual result:
The last color is selected.

Expected result:
The eraser is selected.

You are right. It's really about another tool selection and then opening 'Paint ont template' again. Panning with the middle mouse button works as expected.
