For this sort of problem I'd probably add an separate collection as an index to verse numbers.
Likewise another problem for a later date would be needed for conversion from Christian verse numbers to Jewish verses.

As you can tell this project is a Work In Progress and pretty barebones at that, and I haven't worked or it for 2 years because of work commitments. Just a foundation really. I would be looking to start work on it again in March and maybe make it into a native script or electron app something a bit more accessible than a website.
