Some systems (e.g. those with dir-dif layers) are using more memory than might be expected. This is causing problems on systems with a limited amount of availability. Investigate what is going on and what might be done to mitigate the issue whether that is optimization or potentially providing a way for users to trade memory use for calculation time or some other options.
@danielmcquillen Can you remind us of the specs for the Checkertool machine(s) and if you have any sense of what a target for max memory use might be with at least the configuration that is currently in use? That would, if nothing else, give us something in the way of a target to aim for.
