Privacy Policy

Summary

  • No account is required to use the app.
  • We do not sell personal information.
  • The app can request location permission for closest-station and trip-detail features.
  • Location is processed on-device and is not sent with transit data requests.
  • The web app uses Vercel Analytics for aggregated usage measurement.
  • The app stores limited local preferences on your device.

Information We Collect

SMART trip does not require you to create an account or provide your name, email address, or other direct identifiers to use the app.

Location Data

If you grant permission, the app may access your device location to:

  • suggest the closest SMART station
  • improve trip-detail progress and distance messaging

Location is processed on-device for these features. It is not included in the app's schedule or realtime transit API requests.

Local Device Storage

The app stores limited local state on your device, such as:

  • theme preference
  • language preference
  • fare preference
  • read or dismissed service alert state

This information is stored locally to preserve your app settings and UI state.

Analytics

The web app includes Vercel Analytics, which may collect aggregated usage and performance information. We use this to understand general usage trends and improve the app. Native iOS and Android builds do not mount this web analytics client.

How We Use Information

We use the information above only to:

  • provide location-based app features when you request them
  • remember your local app preferences
  • monitor aggregated usage and performance on the web app
  • improve app reliability and usability

Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for advertising purposes.

Third-Party Services

The app retrieves schedule and realtime transit data from hosted endpoints backed by 511.org data. Standard web requests to the app or its API may include network metadata such as IP address in server logs, as is typical for web hosting.

Children's Privacy

This app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted with an updated effective date.
