Don't remember last area when starting a new freeform recording

I think this is new, but I don't like it.
When I start a new freeform recording, instead of being able to drag the region I want to record, I'm blocked because the previously recorded area has been remembered.

Thanks for the feedback @mrleblanc101. Yes, this has changed recently as part of the selection menu redesign and based on a lot of feedback on how the earlier version of remembering the selection was unobviously annoying. To be fair, it was pretty unobviously annoying.

What I don't want to do here is cluttering the selection menu with anything that isn't immediately useful to most users. From observations, remembering previous selection is usually a one-time choice – people either use it or not. So, adding this into app settings (and quick selection menu settings) should be enough. I'll add this into the frontlog.

Also, a more annoying case where this would transpire is after auto-restoring the full screen selection, where the selection edges are not that visible and it's hard to tell if selection exists or not.

I have the same issue, I never have to capture the same area twice and every new capture I have to look for the area, and if I'm lucky it's far enough away from the new part of the screen so that I don't have to start fiddling with the edge drags.

Can I switch back to a previous version until this is resolved?

Howdy friends, this has been fixed in the upcoming release which should be published in the next few days. You can get the earlier 2.7.2 version from here. Again, sorry for the troubles – I really hope the other half of the users who were desperate to have this on by default are having a smashing time with it… 😅

My man! Never thought I would get an instant solution posting in a half year old thread.

I can imagine it's not easy to balance features and new versions, but glass half empty: You also took away something that the other half of the users were perfectly fine with. 😉

Nevertheless, I've bought the pro version after 1 day of trying it out two years ago and have never looked back, and it looks like that it will stay that way. Appreciate it!
