Gifox takes up several GB of storage even after deleting all GIFs

Hi!

Gifox is apparently taking up 6GB of storage - more than any other application.

I've tried deleting all GIFs from the "Reveal in Finder" folder, deleting and reinstalling Gifox, and restarting my laptop.

Any idea how I can clear up this space?

Hey @jeremynevans, thanks for reaching out!

This sounds like related to #218 and #201 (comment) – see these for full details.

The most likely cause are raw recording files – Gifox saves them in .GIFX format inside the Application Support folder to allow editing and re-exporting later. When you delete a recording from the library, these associated raw files are also removed.

If you want to free up the space manually, you can delete everything inside:

• ~/Library/Application Support/Gifox 2/Compositions if using direct-download or Setapp version.
• ~/Library/Containers/com.gifox.gifox2-appstore/Data/Library/Application Support/Gifox 2/Compositions if using the App Store version.

Note, this will not remove your exported GIFs, but you'll lose the ability to edit or re-export those recordings.

You can also clean up directly in the app by opening the library, selecting any recordings you don't need (or use Cmd+A to select all), and hitting Cmd+Delete to remove them.
