Unreasonably high CPU (6-10%) and energy usage while idle

Gifox is the app using the most CPU and energy while idling:

For comparison, Shottr a screenshot app stays around uses at most 0,1%:

Any idea what might be the cause?

Hey @franciscolourenco, this is likely to be the same as #261. At a startup (and then every once in a while) Gifox will try to optimize the library and encode old media into a more space-efficient format. If it's happening shortly after the app's launch and if you have 3+ day-old recordings – this is the expected behavior.

If not, would be great if you could send me the process sample so I can look further into this, here's how you do it.

P.S. I know it's not ideal the way it works at the moment. We will be revisiting this and coming up with a better approach to handle it, with at least some settings so you have control over this.

Hi @iby it's far away from the startup, I installed Gifox recently, and only have 3 short clips in the library taken a while ago. Gifox media service is not running. I've attached a screenshot and 3 samples.

Thanks for the details and samples Francisco, gonna have a closer look and will post an update once I have something. Also, does relaunching the app resolves this for you or is this a permanent situation? 🤔

Relaunching did make the CPU drop to ~0-2%. I'll make some recordings and let you know if I manage to reproduce the issue.

i can confirm the issue (and the symptomatic fix?) on MacOS Sequoia 15.7.3, MBP M1 pro 32GB ram
just installed, waited 20 minutes or so, no gifs recorded yet
observing 6-10% cpu usage in idle, restarting the app makes it go down to 0-2%
